This section contains the key documents for the establishment and functioning of JPI on Cultural Heritage, as well as its structure, mission and core activities. The Strategic Research Agenda (SRA) and the Vision Document (VD) are at base of the JPI CH.
Strategic Research Agenda (SRA): it identifies four major focus areas, a number of enabling activities and a structured, forward-thinking assessment of the possible future research landscapes. The SRA is supposed to create a foundation for innovative research as well as inspiration for new researches and skills in the fascinating field of protecting and fostering the EU common tangible, intangible and digital cultural heritage. The process followed for defining the SRA involved the Scientific Committee, all JPI Membership, the Advisory Board, Stakeholders and international experts.
Vision Document (VD): it intends to develop the vision for the area of research on cultural heritage in a changing world, starting from the European societal challenges and political contexts. It stresses on the main objective of JPI on Cultural Heritage that shall be addressing the strong relationships between cultural heritage, conservation, technological innovation and economic development within the dynamic framework of the challenges and competitiveness in an enlarged European Union. The three challenges agreed in the VD approved by the Governing Boarding in March 2010, are:
Challenge 1: probing the relation between cultural heritage and one of the most important drivers of future change for communities – climate change.
Challenge 2: probing the issues of protection and security of cultural heritage.
Challenge 3: probing the relationship between the cultural heritage protection and the uses of cultural heritage by society
Term of Reference (ToR): it is the Annex 1 of the VD and describes the governance structure of the JPI CH, the roles, tasks and obligations of each institutional body. It is followed by annexes on the state of the art of public actions supporting cultural heritage in each member Country and at European level.
